Who are we?

The Northwest Composite Wolves Mountain Biking team is a middle and high school team with athletes from Northwest Minnesota and the FM area.    The team is part of the MN Cycling Association that includes 80+ teams. 125+ schools and over 2,600 riders.  Over the last 7 years we have supported over 110 number of local youth in providing a safe, fun and supportive biking environment.   Mountain biking is a great team sport that is a confident- boosting way for youth to get involved in a local outdoor sport that hasn't only gained in popularity over the years.

Who do we serve?

Mountain biking is rapidly gaining popularity, and we are excited for the opportunity to offer it locally to boys and girls in grades 6-12.  We currently serve a wide geographic region across MN and ND, stretching from Wadena and Fargo-Moorhead metro to Wahpeton/Breckenridge.  We look forward to welcoming new team members from even more communities!

What's our goal?

Our team goal is to teach middle and high school students the skills, and love of mountain biking no matter their skill level. We have built a welcoming and encouraging culture for all riders, of all levels, to achieve their personal goals. Any student/youth age 10 or older entering 6th-12th grade the fall of 2025 is eligible to be a member of the team; there are no tryouts and no bench warmers.

What do we teach?

Our program is fun, exciting, and geared towards learning how to ride and race cross country mountain bikes. Team members will learn basic through advanced skills of braking, shifting, body position, cornering, ascending, descending, and obstacles through various on-bike workouts. They will also learn about trail and bike maintenance, proper nutrition, and strength training.

What is our team structure?

Races-

We participate in the Minnesota Cycling Association’s Race Series. It is a four race season in which riders accrue points for themselves as well as for the team. The top 10% (minimum 5, maximum 10) in each category will receive medals at the races as well as the top three teams.

Participants also have an opportunity to be part of a 5th "State" race at the end of the season for those qualifying for state.

Practices -

Races are not mandatory for joining and participation in the team, for those looking for a more recreational and relaxing team biking experience.  Any rider that does not want to race; we offer multiple practices a week that gives everyone opportunity to ride local trails and train in small student/coach groups which are based on bike/trail confidence and skills.
